OSI Group and his career, in general, were the topics of a recent CEOCFO Magazine interview with OSI President, Chief Operating Officer and Board Member David McDonald. David is asked to go into more detail about OSI Group’s commitment to entrepreneurial passion. David explains that the expectation in the company is that through the whole team, the company will go to whatever lengths necessary to meet the needs of its customer base. It often takes a creative food solution and OSI takes great pride in providing these solutions. David has encouraged this company culture by making sure his people in the field know the cultures they work in and understand the needs in those markets. OSI Group encourages innovation by using its customers as fuel. Creatively filling the needs of its customers is what OSI Group is known for, what has made it a global leader. Asked to talk on the big responsibility of providing food, David explains that OSI Group values family and it makes sure to make products that its employees would be proud to serve to their families. As the world changes, OSI Group changes with it instead of denying it. The company always maintains its core values though. Over the next few years, David expects OSI to continue to expand and continue to provide its customers with the most innovative food solutions in the business. The company loves helping its customers solve business challenges. Other than that, the company will do what it has always done in the past. David himself maintains passion by enjoying the huge variations he encounters daily in his work. No day is ever the same as the last and this keeps David motivated. He also notes that a lot of people might not know that OSI gets its biggest thrill out of basking in the success of its customers, rather than bragging about its own successes.
Part of OSI’s success at helping its customers with creative food solutions has been accomplished by acquiring great companies that have product lines that are a benefit to OSI’s mission of customer service. This was the case with the recent Baho Food and Flagship Europe purchases. OSI Group also added a second Chicago facility for meat processing when it acquired the old Tyson food plant.
David McDonald’s career with OSI Group stretches back over 30 years. He has been with the company since graduating from Iowa State University. One of his favorite accomplishments with OSI Group has been the fact that the company has established ten Chinese facilities during his tenure with the firm.
